We arrived in Melbourne and made our way to St Kilda where we had booked into a guesthouse a mere 20 minute walk from the Grand Prix venue, Albert Park. We picked up our tickets so that we could avoid the queues the next day, we shouldn't have been too worried though as our grandstand was pretty empty during the first day of racing.
The Grand Prix event is so much more than just the Formula one and we spent a full four days watching everything from V8 Supercars to the Mini challenge cup, topped off with a good sprinkling of various aerial displays from the Australian version of the Red arrows, the Roulettes, an F-18 fighter jet and a Black Hawk helicopter. We couldn't have been happier with our seats, we were opposite the pit lane and directly facing Schumacher and Webber's garages, with a good view of Hamilton and Button's garage too.
As soon as I heard the first roar of the F1 engine I ran off to buy some ear defenders and when I came back with a radio included too Dave just couldn't resist. Don't we look great?
The weather varied over the four days of competition from sweltering to down right chilly and miserable resulting in some dramatic crashes and red flags for a few of the races. The day of the Grand Prix dawned cloudy with the threat of rain and the downpour just before the start of the race was perfect as it added some excitement and best of all meant that good old Jensen won the race. Our seats also gave us top notch views of the podium and all the champagne shenanigans without having to move a muscle.
During the national anthem the crowd spills onto the track and all mayhem lets loose with crazy Ferrari fans trying to climb over the fences into the pit lane. Once everything had calmed down a little we made our way onto the track to touch the hallowed ground and pose for silly photos.
A great 4 days was had by all and we left Melbourne the next day with the scream of Button's engine still ringing in our ears.

Couldn't see the word "shopping" in all that. Strange.
